Basic Course Instructor training
Physiotherapists and Occupational therapists may enter an instructor training programme to become an IBITA-recognized instructor.
To be admitted to the instructor training programme the candidate must have successfully completed:
A Basic Course on "The Assessment and Treatment of Adults with Neurological Conditions - The Bobath Concept"
A minimum of one year clinical experience
An Advanced Course
Six month's clinical experience
A second Advanced Course
Six month's clinical experience.
The training consists of assisting and co-instructing with an IBITA-recognized instructor on at least three Basic Courses, with a least six months' clinical experience between each assistantship. During the whole period of training the candidate must complete a minimum of 600 hours of clinical work per year. The minimum time for qualification as an instructor is two years from successful completion of the first assistantship. In many countries a didactic course is obligatory, as well as specific candidate training programmes.
During their training the instructor-candidate has to present different parts of the course curriculum, including practical sessions and the assessment and treatment of patients.
Instructor-candidates are evaluated on the fulfillment of the competencies required at any stage of their training. The Competency Profile for Basic Course Instructors is detailed in the Procedural Manual.
The final and qualifying assistantship will be co-instructing with a Senior Instructor.
Advanced Course Instructor training
To be admitted to this stage of training the instructor must have taught a minimum of five basic courses, as a course leader.
The training consists of assisting and co-instructing with an IBITA-recognized Advanced Course or Senior Instructor on at least three Advanced Courses.
Instructor-candidates are evaluated on the fulfillment of the competencies required at any stage of their training. The Competency Profile for Advanced Course Instructors is detailed in the Procedural Manual.
The final and qualifying assistantship will be co-instructing with a Senior Instructor.
Senior Instructor training
To be admitted to this stage of training the Advanced Course instructor must have received national and international recognition for his or her contribution to developing and teaching the Bobath Concept, display exceptional insight and vision in interpreting and applying the Bobath Concept and show knowledge of current developments in the treatment of neurological conditions and related research.
The Senior Instructor-candidate must have taught at least three basic courses and four advanced courses after becoming an Advanced Course Instructor.
The training consists of assisting and co-instructing with an IBITA-recognized Senior Instructor and assisting in the evaluation of course participants on at least two Advanced Courses.
Instructor-candidates are evaluated on the fulfillment of the competencies required at any stage of their training. The Competency Profile for Senior Instructors is detailed in the Procedural Manual.
The final and qualifying assistantship will be co-instructing with a Senior Instructor.
Maintaining Instructor Certification
Instructors on all levels are required to maintain clinical experience of a minimum of 300 hours annually, teach at least one IBITA recognized course every three years and attend the Annual General Meeting at least once every four years (BCI, ACI), Senior Instructors must attend every two years.
