Karen Hastrup Arentsen, PT (Denmark, IBITA Basic Course Instructor)

The Board of the Danish National Association for Stroke has awarded Karen Hastrup Arentsen, specialist in neurophysiotherapy, IBITA instructor and clinical professional adviser in neurophysiotherapy, the association’s prize of honour for 2011. In a statement from the Board, the following was, among others, mentioned amongst Karen’s meritable contributions to neurological rehabilitation: “Karen Hastrup Arentsen became the first Danish specialist in neurophysiotherapy and has as such, been a pioneer in the development of the neurophysiotherapy profession in Denmark. Karen has also strongly influenced the interdisciplinary composition of the contents of brain injury rehabilitation programmes, particularly for stroke. Karen has translated a number of scholarly books to Danish and is a well respected lecturer at national and international meetings and conferences. Karen Hastrup Arentsen is particularly interested in learning processes and is exceptional in developing, strengthening, supervising and communicating professional knowledge to physiotherapists and allied professional staff.”

Susan Ryerson (USA, IBITA Senior Instructor), successfully defended the doctoral dissertation entitled "Loss of trunk position sense and its relationship to postural control in people post stroke" on March 2, 2006. The degree of Doctor of Science (DSc) will be conferred later in the Spring.

Byong Yong Hwang (Korea - IBITA Instructor), has recently received his PhD. His dissertation was titled: 'Effects of proprioceptive control on the balance and walking in the patients with chronic hemiplegia'.

Mary Lynch-Ellerington (UK - IBITA Senior Instructor) has been honoured with the title of FCSP (Fellow of the Chartered Society of Physiotherapy). This is in recognition for the work she has done, not only for the Bobath Concept but also for her work in Neurological Physiotherapy.
